America: A Spiritual Testing Ground
In 2016, while living in India, I made today’s recording for those emailing me in their confusion about the Donald Trump prophecies, his promises of earthly prosperity, and End Times questions. I strongly reminded them that Christians must be discerning, testing every spirit against the truth of God's Word. "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God" (1 John 4:1). I challenged them to recognize the Donald Trump “tree” by its fruit, and to see that God uses America as a testing ground for men’s hearts.
The allure of financial gain can blind us to the subtle deceptions of Satan and false prophets. Jesus warned the Pharisees, who loved money, "What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight" (Luke 16:15). How often do we find ourselves drawn to messages that promise a return to "greatness," defined by material wealth and worldly power? These messages appeal to our carnal desires, but they lead us astray from the true riches found in Christ and heaven.
Jesus taught us to "store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:20). Our focus should not be on accumulating earthly possessions, but on pursuing a deeper relationship with God. When our hearts are set on Christ, we find true contentment and lasting fulfillment.
The obsession with end-times prophecies can also distract us from the more important work of spiritual growth. While it's wise to be aware of the signs of the times, our primary focus should be on mortifying our flesh and becoming more like Christ. "Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers" (1 Timothy 4:16).
Instead of being consumed by fear and worry, let us violently fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let us seek His will above all else, trusting that He is in complete control. When we prioritize our relationship with God, we find true riches that cannot be taken away. May we all strive to live lives that are pleasing to Him, storing up treasures in heaven that will last for eternity.
