"Millions of professed believers talk as if Christ were real and act as if He were not. And always our actual position is to be discovered by the way we act, not by the way we talk. We can prove our faith by our committal to it, and in no other way. Any belief that does not command the one who holds it is not a real belief; it is a pseudo belief only. And it might shock some of us profoundly if we were brought suddenly face to face with our beliefs and forced to test them in the fires of practical living.

"In the past there have been thousands just as confident that they had been genuinely saved and were truly trusting in the merits of the finished work of Christ to take them safely through to Heaven, as you may be; nevertheless, they are now in the torments of Hell. Their confidence was a carnal one; their "faith," no better than that which the demons have. So cocksure were they that they were born again so many years ago, they refused to heed the command of 2 Cor 13:5 "Examine yourselves." And now it is too late.

MANY PROFESSORS ARE DECEIVED - When our roll shall be revised at last, how many out of our more than two thousand members will be found to be pretenders unto godliness! O my brethren, I conjure you, by the precious blood of Christ, which was not shed to make you hypocrites, but shed that a sincere people might show forth His praise; I beseech you, search and look, lest at the last it be said of you, “Mene, Mene Tekel, thou art weighed in the balances and found wanting.” 

“It is to be feared the great mass of nominal Christians are nothing but unconverted worldlings! Jam 2:19, "You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this and tremble in terror!" Do not suppose that genuine faith in Christ, is a mere assent to Scripture truths which you have been taught! If you would not eternally perish, dismiss from your minds all such delusive expectations, and to seek from God that genuine faith which can save the soul.



"Multitudes of good-meaning people are interested in Christianity, and are active in Christianity. They see the value of the Christian standard of life, and Christian teaching, and have thought if only it could be applied, how different the world would be. So they have become busy in Christianity, and have thought they were in the kingdom of God. Not at all! You can have all the interest in Christianity without being in the kingdom."

“We may move upon the surface of men's lives, we may touch their emotions, we may lead them to easy, nonsacrificial religious exercises and activities, and think we are saving souls, but we do not really win them until we constrain them to follow us, as we follow Christ, through death -- death to sin, death to the flesh and the world, into newness of life unto Holiness.” -

“We might devote our life and strength to Christian work, toiling unweariedly in the service of the church, giving our money lavishly for the advancement of Christianity or for the relief of suffering--and yet NOT be Christians. You must receive Christ as your Master and Lord. A Christian is one who follows Christ. This means the surrender of the whole life to Him. The heart must be given up. There can be no Christian life, without love to Jesus.
