96 – Dan – “Michael, you are becoming judgmental, self-righteous, and unloving.”

No email available. This was a text and audio exchange between myself and Dan, where I confronted first what I detected was a false Charismatic church influence on his beliefs, and second expressing my concern about him endorsing a book by Louie Giglio, as a “life changing” book for him, despite the fact that Louie Giglio should be seen as an ecumenical apostate, who literally became a “Pope Kisser”.

The Rotten Fruit of Easy Believism: When Profession Doesn't Match Practice

Dan shared his excitement with me about a “life-changing” book by a popular Christian author, Louie Giglio. He praised its message, unaware of Louie’s ecumenical apostasy, literally embracing and kissing Pope Francis. After being confronted, Dan labeled me judgmental, self-righteous and unloving.  This situation highlights the pervasive danger of easy believism, a shallow false faith that prioritizes profession over practice.

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32). In the recording, I reminded Dan true freedom is not found in the latest self-help book or counseling technique, but in holding to Christ's teachings and obeying His Word.

How did believers throughout history find freedom from sin and brokenness before these modern methods existed? They immersed themselves in the Word of God and sought His power through prayer and obedience. They understood that true transformation comes not from human wisdom, but from the Spirit of God working in us.

The Puritans, who faced immense persecution for their faith, offer a powerful example. They sought to purify the church and live holy lives, clinging to the truth of Scripture even when it cost them everything. Their writings reveal a depth of understanding and a passion for God that is often lacking today.

We must be discerning, recognizing the rotten fruit of easy believism and compromise. A tree is known by its fruit (Matthew 7:16). If a teacher or author promotes a message that contradicts God's Word or condones continued sin, we must reject their teachings, no matter how popular or appealing they may seem.

Instead, let us return to our first love, the simplicity and power of the Gospel. Let us immerse ourselves in the Word of God, allowing it to transform our minds and hearts. Let us seek His guidance through prayer and walk in obedience to His commands. In Christ alone, we find true and lasting freedom.
