Testing Every Spirit: Trump’s Speech vs. The Words of Jesus

“Just a few months ago…an assassin's bullet ripped through my ear. … I was saved by God to make America great again.” - Donald Trump

Note:  I, Michael Chriswell, am not for any political party or leader, and I do not hate Donald Trump as a human being.  If I met Donald Trump, I love him enough to tell him he is a sinner, whom God’s wrath is aimed at, and that he deludes himself to say He loves Jesus and has a “great relationship with God”.  I would tell him he believes in a counterfeit Jesus, and that unless he repents of his sinful life and hypocrisy, he will perish eternally in hell.  What I do hate about Donald Trump is the terrible deception and hypocrisy which he represents to millions of professing believers who have not seen, what I shared with Gary in today’s recording.  I, as a follower of Jesus Christ, and minister, have the Biblical responsibility to test every spirit, and to discern the times and seasons, to see them as God sees them.  A.W. Tozer was right in saying, that all of history shows, the crowds and the masses, have always been wrong, and true spirituality and light has only ever been the possession of a few.

Millions of professing Christians, including a good brother of mine, believe Donald Trump was God’s righteous choice to be the president of the United States (“God’s Chosen”) again in 2024.  As evidence of God’s choice, they speak about the good things Trump said and did for the country and his support of Israel, during his first term, but they also speak about the “prophecies” made about him, his own “belief” in “Jesus”, his favor towards “Christians”, his strong patriotism, his protection of the border, his stance on issues like abortion and the transgender mess, and of course to his seemingly miraculous escape from a fatal shot to the head.  Even without all these reasons, they are right.

Donald Trump, became President, either by God’s direct Sovereign intentional choice, or because He allowed the people to again choose their own “king”, against His will, and without His consent or approval, and perhaps He chose not to stop it, just like when Israel chose King Saul against God’s will, to teach them a painful lesson.

Hosea 8:4 They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval.”

Either way, we can know that God allowed Trump to become president, otherwise, it would not have happened.  The word of God clearly says that God is Sovereign over all kingdoms of the earth, and He sets up and deposes all kings (leaders) (Daniel 2:21, 4:7, Romans 13:1).  BUT, God also said that Israel was guilty of choosing her own leaders.  God was still in control of whether a leader was put into position, but this shows that God often allows us to grab what we want, apart from His will, so that later we will reap the terrible consequences of rebelling against God.  And He still holds the nation responsible for doing this, even though he could have stopped it, but didn’t.

If we hold to the Biblical truth that God chooses all kings and leaders, therefore, He chose Trump, let us reflect on the fact that He also chose leaders like Pharaoh, King Saul, King Ahab, Nebuchadnezzar, Sennacherib, King Herod, all the Popes, Mohammed, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Kim Jong Un, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin. All of these leaders, and many more, were “God’s chosen” instruments, according to the Bible.

This requires then, that Christians discern whether God has chosen a leader, like Donald Trump, as an instrument of blessing, or of testing, an instrument of truth, or of deception, an instrument of prosperity, or of His judgment

We learn in 1 Kings 22:22, that God will use lying spirits in the mouths of false prophets to deceive people, and we see again in 2 Thessalonians that God sends powerful delusions to people who do not love the truth, so they will believe lies as if they were the truth.

Remember, God used the prophet Samuel to select and anoint Saul as King of Israel, and king Saul did some initial good for Israel, but despite that good, we know that God chose Saul to be king, in his anger, not to bless them, but to eventually bring judgment upon on them.  In King Saul, God gave them exactly what they wanted and demanded, and what He knew they deserved.

Today’s audio message and argument to my good friend Gary, about Donald Trump and politics, is a reminder we must be on guard against all last day’s deceptions, and to test every spirit (1 John 4:1), remembering Jesus warned, “False Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.” (Matthew 24:24).

While many have erroneously interpreted this passage to mean the elect cannot be deceived, this is contradicted by the Holy Spirit’s many other warnings in Scripture, that it is indeed possible for the elect to be deceived.  The apostles were the first elect, in the New Covenant, and they were also the first warned by Jesus that they could fall away (John 16:1, Mat 24:4).  Paul, himself warned us of God sending powerful delusions to all who do not love the truth, such that they would believe the lie and be deceived into destruction (2 Thessalonians 2:11).

In 2018, during his first term as president, Donald Trump was hailed by many Jews and Christians as a type of King Cyrus, even having his image put on a Jewish coin next to Cyrus.  I tried to help a few people see that this was a deception because God has never used a hypocrite for righteous purposes which involved the blessing of His people.  Israel suffered terrible consequences under every hypocritical king, God ever gave them.  In fact, starting with Saul, all the kings were simply a reflection of the spiritual condition of God’s people.  It is the same today.  Donald Trump is a reflection of the spiritual condition of the people in the United States.

Hosea 13:11 So in my anger I gave you a king, and in my wrath I took him away.

When God chose King Cyrus, he was not a hypocrite who professed any faith in the Living God of Israel.

He was a pagan, but noble king, and therefore God could use Him for good.  That is not true of Donald Trump, who continues to be a remarkable hypocrite, claiming to love Christians, the Bible, to believe in Jesus, and even saying in an interview he has a “great relationship with God”, all while living a life the devil himself is likely envious of.

How am I to reconcile Donald Trump claiming to have a great relationship with God, with God’s own word in Titus 1:16? “They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.”

“Unfit for doing anything good.”  So how then do I reconcile that word of God with the following?

For Trump’s second presidential term, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn prophesied before thousands of ecstatic believers that God has now made Trump, not another Cyrus, but a type of “Jehu”, the Biblical avenger of King Ahab’s house (2 Kings 9), for the restoration of God’s blessing and prosperity in America.

As a Christian, I must, for the preservation of truth, my soul, and my eternal destiny, be like a skeptical Berean to see if what a “prophet” says lines up with the known ways of God and His word in the Bible.  I must not take some man’s word for it.  I must ask for myself, with God’s help, “is this the truth?”  Is this God’s intended purpose for Trump?  Or, could God be using Trump, and the “prophecies”, and even the “wonders” of a near miss fatal gun shot, to lead those who do not love the truth, but have delighted in wickedness, to believe THE LIE, and so to be condemned?

Shall we just take Rabbi Cahn’s word for it, since he is a Messianic Jew and an honored and prolific New York Times best-selling “end times” author?  No, we must test the spirit at work in Jonathan Cahn and others about this, with some basic Biblical reasoning.  Do not even take my word for it!

Testing Every Spirit: Trump’s Speech vs. The Words of Jesus

(Trump) “Just a few months ago…an assassin's bullet ripped through my ear. … I was saved by God to make America great again.”

Donald Trump claims that God saved his life to bless and prosper America again.  Let us then compare and contrast the words and spirit of Donald Trump, in his inauguration speech, with the words and Spirit of Jesus Christ.  Are they the same spirit?  Does Donald Trump believe in, and is he being directed by the true Biblical Jesus Christ, or another Jesus Christ?

Is this really God’s purpose for Trump, or are we being told what we want to hear and are we being tested by God?

Although I am a Spirit-filled follower and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, I still have that old godless flesh and my human nature.  That part of me, if I allowed it to reign, would love to hear and hope for the things Donald Trump promised me as an American, but I do not live according to that godless flesh anymore, but by the Spirit of the Living God.  My desires and hopes have changed to those of God and Christ, and the truth.

Did God save Donald Trump to make America great again?  Is this the heavenly purpose God has in mind, for his beloved children in America, to make them the wealthiest nation that has ever been, even wealthier, and more prosperous, and more powerful and more exalted than before?  Does this line up with any of His New Covenant purposes we learn from Christ and the apostles?  Does this produce people who love God and are faithful to Him, a heavenly race, or a world loving people?

James 4:3-4 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. [4] You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

(Trump) “The golden age of America begins right now. We are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success… to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and indeed their freedom.”

(Jesus)  The Pharisees, who loved money…were sneering at Jesus.  He said to them, You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts.  What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight.” – Luke 16:14-15

(Jesus)  “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” – Mark 8:34-35

(Trump) “We will be a rich nation again.  The American Dream will soon be back and thriving like never before.”

(Jesus)  Blessed are the poor for theirs is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 6:20).

(Jesus)  “The rich man also died and was buried.  In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away…Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now his is comforted here and you are in agony.” – Luke 14:22-25

(Jesus – Luke 14:16-21) Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ 18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ 20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ 21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’

(Trump) “We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, safety, and peace.”

(Paul) While people are saying, “Peace and safety”, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. – 1 Thes 5:3

(Jesus) “I have told you these things, so that IN ME you may have peaceIn this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Jeremiah 4:10 Then I said, "Ah, Sovereign Lord, how completely you have deceived this people and Jerusalem by saying, 'You will have peace,' when the sword is at our throats."

Ezekiel 13:10-12 " 'Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall.  Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones, hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.  When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”

(Trump)our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation. “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world. America will be respected again and admired again, including by people of religion, faith and goodwill. We will be prosperous. We will be proud. We will be strong, and we will win like never before. We will not be conquered. We will not be intimidated. We will not be broken. And we will not fail.

(Jesus) “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.  What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”  Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:25-26

(Jesus) “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.  What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”  Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:25-26

(Jesus) “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” – Revelation 3:17

(Trump)I will, very simply, put America first….Our sovereignty will be reclaimed…. our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud and prosperous and free…”

(Jesus)  “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:3

(Trump) America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before…

(Jesus) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:3

(Jesus)  “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” – Mark 8:34-35

(Trump) We will lead it to new heights of victory and success…a growing nation…that increases our wealth…

(Jesus) “But God said to him [a certain rich man whose field produced a good crop], ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.

(Jesus) “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” – Matthew 19:24

(Jesus) “No one can serve two masters.  Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and Money.” – Matthew 6:24

How do we reconcile this with the Holy Spirit’s condemnation, through Paul saying, “they are men with corrupt mind who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain”?

(Trump) “we will rebuild the nation that we love. And we love it so much.”

(Jesus)  The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” – John 12:25

How do we reconcile “loving a nation so much” as being something God is pleased with, when His word completely contradicts that?  (Hebrews 11:13-16) “And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.  People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.  If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.  Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.  Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”

(Trump) “We will again build the strongest military the world has ever seen.”

(Jesus)  “My kingdom is not of this worldIf it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews.  But now my kingdom is from another place.” – John 18:36

(Jesus)  “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” – John 18:36

(Jesus by John)  If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go.  If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed.  This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.” – Rev 13:10

(Trump) “We will be a nation like no other…Our power will stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent, and totally unpredictable.”

(Daniel 9:26)War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”

(Jesus)  “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars…such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” – Matthew 24:6

Is anything Trump said consistent with God’s Word and His Spirit, whom he claims saved him and chose him to be an agent of prosperity to America?  Has God changed His ways and thinking, contrary to Hebrews 13:8, or are we being led into deception?

How, if I am a lover of God, and His truth, can I come to any other conclusion about Donald Trump, than that he is being used by God, not to bring prosperity, power, wealth, respect, safety and peace, but to tell deceived people exactly what they want to hear, so that they believe the lie and join those who will be condemned?

(Trump) “We are one people, one family and one glorious nation under God.”

How do we reconcile the notion from Trump that we are under God, when not one word from his mouth is with Ezekiel 33:31 “My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.

Does Any of This Reconcile with God’s Ways in the Bible?

There are basic principles in God’s word which show us His unchanging ways, and we must compare them to the ideas, promises, and prophetic words about Trump, to see if they match.

For instance, how do we reconcile the “highly valued” prosperity and “security” promises of Trump’s campaign and inauguration speech, with Jesus’ teaching that those who love money “justify” themselves and what is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s eyes.” (Luke 16:15)?

How do we reconcile the “Christian” patriotism found in Trump supporters with God’s word in Hebrews 11:13-16, that He is not ashamed to be the God of those who are longing, not for the country they came from, but the heavenly one?

How do we reconcile the loud aggressive actions of “Christian” Trump supporters at the United States Capital building with the righteous of Psalm 35:20, who apparently live “quietly in the land”, or with Paul’s command to the Thessalonians to “make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, mind your own business”?

How do we reconcile the political “Christianity” we see today, with the fact that Jesus Christ was unpolitical, or with God’s word saying, “a good soldier does not get involved in civilian affairs because he wants to please his commanding officer” (2 Tim 2:4), or with Jesus saying, “My kingdom is not of this world, or my followers would fight… (John 18:36)?

How do we reconcile the slogan, “God, Guns and Trump” with Jesus’ teaching Peter, “all who draw the sword will die by the sword” (Mat 26:52)?

Does any of this fit and reconcile with God’s ways in the word, or are many simply justifying a love of Trump because he is telling people what their itching, world loving ears, want to hear?

Are you amazed at Donald Trump’s narrow escape from death after the attempted shot to his head?

Did you know that people are also going to be amazed at this?

One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed.  THE WHOLE WORLD WAS ASTONISHED AND FOLLOWED THE BEAST! – Revelation 13:3

Is anything Trump said consistent with God’s Word?

Has God changed His ways and thinking, contrary to Hebrews 13:8, or are we being led into deception? How, if I am lover of God, and His truth, can I come to any other conclusion about Donald Trump, than that he is being used by God, not to bring prosperity and peace, but to tell deceived people exactly what they want to hear, so that they believe the lie and be condemned?

But now, let us go further.  Let us examine specifically the prophecy of Jonathan Cahn, that Donald Trump has been chosen by God to be a “Jehu”.  Are we able to reconcile this with the word of God?

Does Trump Have the Same Spirit as Jehu?

Jehu was chosen to be King of Israel, by God, and was used to exterminate the entire household of the evil King Ahab, including Jezebel, and all the remaining prophets of Baal.

When God prophetically chose John the Baptist as a type of Elijah, we can see remarkable matches, not only in their dress (camel’s hair), but in their holiness, their character, their lack of temporal comforts, their outspoken warnings against sin, and their zeal of the Lord and His word.  These two men were indeed of the same spirit.  That prophecy and prophetic type was a perfect fit, but what about Rabbi Cahn’s prophecy about Donald Trump being a type of Jehu?  Is it a fit?  Is there a Biblical precedent anywhere in the Bible, or history, of God using a sinful hypocrite, for the purposes of blessing a nation, or His people?

Contrary to the spirit of Donald Trump, who has made it known for decades that he would like to be President of the United States, The Bible indicates Jehu had no desire whatsoever to be king.

When Jehu was chosen by God to be king, he was so humble that he didn’t even want to tell his fellow officers about his election (2 Kings 9:11).  Let us contrast that with the braggadocios pride and indescribable arrogance of Donald Trump.  Is this the same spirit?

When Jehu came across the beautiful Jezebel with all her makeup on and her hair done, he had her thrown down from a wall, because she was so wicked.  This is in sharp contrast to how Donald Trump says he reacts to beautiful women, all of whom he apparently loves.  Is this the same spirit?

Jehu had a tremendous zeal for the Lord and knew God’s word (2 Kings 10:16-17).  Donald Trump claims that his favorite book is the Bible, yet when questioned, he fails to be able to answer even the question “What is your favorite book in the Bible, or favorite Bible passage?”, with anything other than “It’s personal…I don’t talk about it.”  What spirit is this?

When God chose Jehu to be a King and to wipe out the house of Ahab, did God choose a man who was filled with the pride of Satan, a man who was arrogant, a man who lies more than people can keep up with, a man who says he can grab any women he wants by her private parts, a man who’s entire business history is filled with corruption and scandal?  When God chose Jehu, did God choose a man who wanted to be a famous Hollywood movie producer, a man who was head over heels with himself, and who craved all the attention and limelight, a man of filthy lips, a man who believed even bad press is good because it keeps his name before the people?  Did God, when He chose Jehu, choose a man who would say anything, and do anything to win?  Trump is not at all, the same spirit as Jehu.

I would have no problem with Donald Trump, whatsoever, if he did not profess to be a believer in the Bible and Jesus Christ, and if millions were not deceived by this.  Sinners do, what sinners do.  Jesus left Rome, largely alone, but you go read Matthew 23.  Then try to fit into that narrative that God has now changed, and is pleased to use hypocrites to bless and bring peace and prosperity, the very thing that has always lured away the hearts of His people from him.  How do we reconcile that with the fact that in Matthew 23, He condemned the hypocrites to hell, not into leadership?

This is an important message, because dear brother or sister, do you realize that the final Antichrist will also be “God’s chosen” leader? Will you support, honor, and respect him, simply because he is God’s chosen instrument, and tells you initially what you want to hear and believe?  Will you vote for him, support him, respect him, and obey as “God’s chosen” servant, like Romans 13, when applied with no wisdom, would seem to suggest you should do?

Please, also listen to the argument I made to brother Gary in this recording about the Pope, which convinced him to re-consider his discernment on Trump.  May God bless you as you do!
