102 - Stephen - The Severely Rotten Fruit of Easy Believism

This audio is a continuation of my recordings to Stephen about The American Easy Believism Deception. I see Easy Believism as a superficial faith that emphasizes belief without obedience and a changed life. In the recording I address Biblical vs. Cultural Christianity, distinguishing between true faith rooted in Scripture and a faith shaped by cultural norms, like what we are seeing so much of in MAGA Christianity.

I also speak about The Cost of Discipleship, reminding us that following Jesus requires a willingness to obey His commands and potentially face persecution, and Judging Fruit, which is the evidence of true faith as seen in a life transformed by the Holy Spirit, producing good fruit. Finally, I speak about The Danger of Deception, being misled about the true nature of Christianity can have eternal consequences.

      The American Easy Believism Deception

Are you a true follower of Christ, or have you fallen prey to "easy believism"? This subtle deception whispers that mere belief in Jesus is enough for salvation, while ignoring His call to obedience and a transformed life. It's a comfortable Christianity, one that avoids the hard truths of Scripture and conforms to cultural norms, despite the Bible’s warning that no one will see Him without holiness.

Jesus Himself warned against this, saying, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21). He didn't say, "Not everyone who believes in me," but rather, those who do His will. True faith is active, demonstrated through obedience to His commands (John 14:21).

This is not a popular message in a culture that prizes comfort and self-reliance. Many, like Stephen in today's reading, cling to a faith that justifies worldly values and prioritizes self-preservation over God's will. But Jesus calls us to a different path, one of self-denial and a willingness to suffer for His rightful Lordship over our life (Matthew 16:24).

Examine your own heart. Is your faith rooted in the unchanging truth of Scripture, or is it a watered-down version molded by the world around you? Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)? Or are you clinging to a false “finished work” Gospel of “easy believism” to justify your disobedience and lukewarmness?

Don't be deceived. True faith requires a commitment to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, even when it's difficult. It's a life transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, a life that reflects the character of Christ. Choose today to walk in the truth, and experience the freedom that comes from genuine obedience.
