Spiritual Fitness: Building a Life That Lasts Beyond the Temporal
Are you wrestling with your career path, like Cory in today’s recording, wondering if your work aligns with God's heart and purpose for your life? Do you feel a tug in your heart, a desire for something more than just a job? Know that you are not alone. Many of us grapple with these questions, seeking a sense of meaning and direction in our professional lives.
The Bible offers comfort and guidance for those seeking God's path. Psalm 25:12 asks, "Who, then, is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him." This verse reminds us that God has a specific plan for each of us, a path uniquely designed for our talents and gifts. But how do we discover this path?
The key is humility and a willingness to seek God's will above our own. "He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way," Psalm 25:9 assures us. When we approach God with a humble heart, open to his instruction, he promises to lead us. This doesn't mean we passively wait for a booming voice from heaven. It means we actively engage with God through prayer, studying scripture, and seeking His wise counsel.
Like the psalmist, we must cultivate a heart that fears the Lord. This "fear" is not about being terrified, but about revering God, recognizing his authority and wisdom in our lives. When we fear the Lord, we are more likely to listen to his gentle whispers, to discern his will amidst the noise of our own desires and the world's expectations.
Just as a carpenter carefully plans and crafts a piece of furniture, God has a blueprint for our lives. He knows our strengths, weaknesses, and the unique contributions we can make to his kingdom. Let us approach him with open hearts, asking for guidance and trusting that he will lead us down the path he has chosen for us. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11.
