56 - Michael's Notes on Persis Falling Away and Eastern Mysticism

The Apostate Bride of Christ

Michael’s Notes and Insights on Falling Away and Eastern Mysticism

This post is simply a collection of my real-time notes which I made on my iPhone as I continued to gain insights into my wife’s falling away from her pure and sincere devotion to Christ.  Perhaps think of these as supplemental “study notes” for the series you have just finished listening to, rather than a well-written document or teaching.

I’ve included various devotionals which pin-point the mistakes my wife made and the traps she fell into along the way.  I’ve also included the notes I gathered which will help us to understand the basics of Eastern Mysticism (Hinduism/Buddhism primarily).  There are many who believe, as do I now, that Mysticism will be the one world religion of the Anti-Christ, so this is extremely important for us to learn.  I have gathered some notes from this as well. Finally, I have compiled the Scriptures that warn us about falling away, the very one’s my wife ignored.

God’s redemption plans rarely look redemptive in the beginning.

When God took Eve from Adam…Rachel from Jacob…Joseph from Jacob…Nabal from Abigail…Samuel from Hannah…Samson’s Beloved Wife from Samson…Esther from her own people…Job’s children from Job…Jesus from his disciples…and beloved Persis from Michael, He wasn’t punishing the one who lost the loved one.  He was preparing for more redemption elsewhere.

“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.” – Isaiah 43:4

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:9

“The moment we receive anything from the Lord worth fighting for, the Devil comes seeking to destroy us.  Power is developed through resistance and one day we will understand that even Satan has been used as one of God’s instruments of blessing.” A.B. Simpson

Who could imagine, after seeing all that God did to put this marriage together, that it would all fall apart so quickly?  Job certainly could, and so can Jesus in John 6:66, where it says, “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.”

When my wife began to stop listening to me, she stopped listen to Jesus.  When she began rejecting me, she began rejecting Jesus.

Luke 10:16 NIV  [16] "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

The following devotional describes exactly what happened to Persis.  She did not get sidetracked by some gross sin or by turning to the world, but rather by something which seemed to bring her great satisfaction and promise for meaning in her life.

March 21 – Austin Spark Open Windows Devotional

Since the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. (Hebrews 4:1 NIV)

For those who, like the New Testament writers, have a real burden and sense of responsibility for the spiritual life of God's people (just as I, Michael Chriswell do, and especially for my wife), one of the most heart-breaking things is the way in which so many who gave promise of going right on with the Lord are caught in some side-track and turn to something other or less than what He meant for them. Not necessarily to sin or to the world, but to something which, while it brings them a great deal of gratification for a time, eventually proves to be a diversion resulting in arrested spiritual growth, and they are found in a backwater, a cul-de-sac, occupied with an alternative to "the whole counsel of God." Their "new discovery," or "light," or "guidance," as they speak of it, by reason of the let-up of some tension, solution to some problems, promise of release into self-realization, and escape from pressure, when the novelty and glamor have worn off is found to have been "deceitful waters," producing Jericho's fruits which fall before they are ripe....

Michael note: Persis’ new “spiritual discoveries” and “light” brought temporary relief to her inabilities to find comfort in the reconciliation of her life to the principles in Scripture alone.  The Bible left her with mysterious holes she could not plug, but Eastern Mysticism gave her the satisfaction of “answers” and plugged those holes.

The deceptive peril or Satanic snare will be cunningly and ingeniously adapted to the ‘prey.’ What would capture some would make no appeal to others. The most spiritual will be presented with what /appears to be /most spiritual. (My wife Persis is the most “spiritual” person I know…this deceptive was perfectly adapted her)  Our particular temperament will be our peculiar danger. We shall have to, ever and always, be governed by principle, and not by feelings, preferences, arguments, or natural appeal. Intellectual palliatives, emotional ecstasies, activity-gratifications must be suspected or challenged. The one question must be paramount – Where does this lead? Does it essentially and intrinsically relate to the one supreme purpose of God?

By T. Austin-Sparks from: The Danger of Coming Short

Michael note: As an illustration, if you give somebody all of the exact perfect truths in the Bible, but you remove Jesus Christ as the son of God and redeemer, not a single word of what remains, is worth anything, regardless of the fact that it was all spoken of God. Every word in the word of God is worthless apart from the person and Spirit of Jesus Christ dwelling in our hearts.  If you can fathom all the mysteries in the world and possess all wisdom but you do not have the Spirit of the Living Christ living in you, you have nothing!

How much more would this be true when a person writes about and teaches on all the world’s greatest wisdom, but neglects the wisdom that is in Christ alone as the Lord, as our Savior?

1 Corinthians 1:24 – …Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:30 – Christ Jesus has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, redemption.

All of the wisdom of the world, no matter how wonderful it sounds, no matter how helpful it may be, no matter how true it’s application is in this present world, if it denies Jesus Christ, if it suppresses the teachings and life and person of Jesus Christ, if it is setting itself above the wisdom of Christ, it is all an absolute Sham and abomination in the eyes of God.  Wisdom can help you have a better life and better results in this life, but it cannot give you salvation, apart from the person of Jesus Christ.  What would it profit a man to gain all the wisdom of the world and lose his soul?  My wife has gained much worldly wisdom, but she has lost spiritual life in Christ in exchange.

April 9 – Austin Sparks Open Windows Devotional

But the natural (soulical) man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

When you look at 1 Corinthians what a lot of soulicalism there is: this wisdom of words, this wisdom of the world, these likes and these dislikes and preferences and partialities and antipathies, and then their jealousies. That is no good on this foundation. Do not bring your own soul-life into relationship with Christ; it will not add up and it will not go through, it will go up in smoke. Are you trying to make your Christianity a matter of how you feel? You will have a composite kind of Christianity of so many varieties, nothing consistent at all, a perfect patchwork. (this is what Persis had before she fully fell away as she began adding first Psychology and then Eastern Mysticism to her knowledge of Christ) When you think you have arrived at a very good logical conclusion about a matter, something will come along and upset the whole thing.... You never get through that way. Your soul in the realm of its mental exercises and conflicts will never add up with Christ.

Michael’s notes:  This again is exactly what Persis did and millions more do.  She approached the Bible, looking for answers and meaning for her own life in this very natural or soulish way, jumping from one principle or Bible story after another, trying to find the right fit.  First, she tried matching the Israelites’ “wilderness” journey to her life journey, then when that didn’t add up, she jumped to their Babylonian captivity.  Then when that didn’t add up, she jumped to the Law vs Spirit, and when that also didn’t add up, she finally landed on the Prodigal son.  This one lasted the longest, but soon that too wasn’t fully adding up for her.  This is when she finally ran out of Bible metaphors and started searching outside the Bible for the wisdom and meaning of man, starting with Psychology.  Man has come up with all kinds of insights to plug the holes in hungry souls, aided no doubt, by the demons of hell.

Let us remember that THE Solution for ALL our Problems, THE Answer for ALL our questions is NOT any Biblical principle or even the Bible itself, but rather the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  You can find answers for your life in the Bible and still not find Jesus Christ, and as a result still end up spiritually dead and without eternal life.  Jesus Christ is the Answer…not a Bible verse…KNOWING Him is the answer, not just knowing His teachings or knowing about Him.  He, the person, the Lord, the Son of God, the King of kings…HE is the answer.  Let me put it to you this way.  Just this morning, the Bible didn’t have anything for me.  I needed my Lord, the person, not a Bible verse.  I needed Him…His presence…His wisdom…His insight…His counsel.  Yes, I need the Word of God, but let me remember always that the Bible is a “means to an end”, not the end itself.  Jesus is the END!  The word of God is pointing me to the person of God.  It shows me how to Know Him, the person.  It does not leave me to be satisfied in the Word alone, but in Christ alone.  Look at what Paul’s emphasis was always on…

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, become like him in his death. – Philippians 3:10

All Scripture should direct us to Him, not just to more and more Scripture.  If you stop with Scripture and miss the living Lord of the Scripture, you still lose.  Remember, Jesus had to even address this issue of “looking just to the Book” with the Jews.

“You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life.  These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” – John 5:39-40

Look who Paul said would save Him…was He clinging to a Bible verse or hoping in some Biblical principle alone?

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack…- 2 Timothy 4:18 (notice He doesn’t say a Bible verse will protect Him, but rather the actual person of the Lord Christ…this is because Paul knew the Lord, not just Bible verses)

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.  I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ (not a Bible verse, story, or principle).

Back to the Austin Sparks devotional…

And as for our own soul-will, strength to do, we may feel very strong, we are never going again to be caught like that, never going down that street again! It is not long before we are there. Oh, how ashamed our souls make us! How ashamed we have been because of the instability of our feelings or our wills or our thoughts. Ashamed! Ashamed! Ashamed! Our souls are making fools of us all the time. “He that believes on Him shall not be put to shame.”

Paul says that this soul-life business must not come on Christ. It is a contradiction. It is not what you are, it is what Christ is.

When you cannot see and understand and work it out mentally, when you cannot feel anything, no feelings at all, or when they are very bad feelings - that is one realm, that is just what we are (five senses, emotions, feelings..soul). Christ is not that, and we have at such times to say, "Lord, this is my infirmity, this is how I am, but You are Other; I transfer my faith to You from myself and from these things." Christ is the foundation, and all that we build on the foundation has to be Christ Himself. He is not only the foundation, but He is the whole building in every part.

By T. Austin-Sparks from: Features of Zion - Chapter 4

Jonathan Edwards describes the prayer that showed the full extent of Jesus’ love.

“When the dreadful cup was before Christ, he did not say ‘Why should I go to plunge myself into such torments for worthless, wretched worms that deserve to be hated by me?’

“ ‘Why should I who have been living from all eternity in the enjoyment of the Father’s love, cast myself into such a furnace for those who never can pay me for it?’

“ ‘Why should I yield myself to be crushed by the divine wrath for those who have no love for me, and are my enemies? They do not deserve any union with me, and never did, and never will.’

“Such, however, was not the language of Christ’s heart in these circumstances.

“On the contrary, he resolved even then, in the midst of his agony, to yield himself up to the will of God, and to take the cup and drink it.”

Michael note: As I read these words, I connected them to the situation with my wife, and how many recordings I have mentioned that she is an unworthy bride, and yet I would continue to love her and continue to embrace this suffering, drinking this cup which the Father has put into my hands.  It goes against all human reasoning.

Shall I not drink the cup the Father have given me? John 18:11

A.B. Simpson Devotional

He is a new creature —2 Corinthians 5:17

Resurrected, not raised. There is so much in this distinction. The teaching of human philosophy is that we are to raise humanity to a higher plane. But this is not the gospel. On the contrary, the teaching of the cross is that humanity must die and sink out of sight and then be resurrected, not raised.

Resurrection is not an improvement, not elevation; it is a new supernatural life lifting us from nothingness into God and making us partakers of the divine nature. It is a new creation. It is an infinite elevation above the highest plane. Let us refuse anything less than resurrection life.

I am crucified with Jesus,

And the cross has set me free;

I have risen again with Jesus,

And He lives and reigns in me,

This the story of the Master,

Through the cross He reached the throne,

And like Him our path to glory,

Ever leads through death alone,

Poem from streams in the desert on April 9.

Michael note: This poem applies to my experience with having a wife who has been used to stand against me and oppose Christ alone in my life.

In a factory building there are wheels and gearings,

There are cranks and pulleys, beltings tight or slack--

Some are whirling swiftly, some are turning slowly,

Some are thrusting forward, some are pulling back;

Some are smooth and silent, some are rough and noisy,

Pounding, rattling, clanking, moving with a jerk;

In a wild confusion in a seeming chaos,

Lifting, pushing, driving--but they do their work.

From the mightiest lever to the tiniest pinion,

All things move together for the purpose planned;

And behind the working is a mind controlling,

And a force directing, and a guiding hand.

So all things are working for the Lord's beloved;

Some things might be hurtful if alone they stood;

Some might seem to hinder; some might draw us backward;

But they work together, and they work for good,

All the thwarted longings, all the stern denials,

All the contradictions, hard to understand.

And the force that holds them, speeds them and retards them,

Stops and starts and guides them--is our Father's hand.

Our Marriage Has Broken Down

The following quote from Ch. 1 of one of Austin Sparks book called “on the high calling” explains exactly what has also happened in my marriage to Persis.

“The marriage between God and Israel had broken down, for Israel had violated the terms of the covenant of marriage with Jehovah. They had, as the prophets said, become an adulterous nation and had gone after other gods. Therefore, the marriage had broken down.”

Rewritten to illustrate our marriage.

“The marriage between Michael and Persis had broken down, for Persis had violated the terms of the Christian covenant of marriage with Michael.  She had become an adulterous wife spiritually and had gone after other gods, in the form of her own hybrid version of Hinduism and Buddhism. Therefore the marriage had broken down.“

“A man will bear a thousand infirmities in the wife of his bosom, but unfaithfulness in the marriage-covenant breaks his heart.” - John Flavel

HINDUISM AND BUDDHISM – The Basics of Eastern Mysticism

Quoted from BereanCall.org, founded by Dave Hunt, and written by T.A. McMahon

October 1, 2016

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. —2 Thessalonians:2:3-4

The Apostle Paul pointed to a time in the history of the church when a condition would be prevalent that would greatly undermine the faith of professing and true believers: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (2 Tm 4:3 )

The article goes on to make the case that Eastern Mysticism will eventually become the one world religion of the Anti-Christ and makes several strong cases as to why and opens our eyes as to how much it has already permeated our culture and even the so called “church”, without most of us being able to see it.

“Undermining sound doctrine is Satan’s primary goal in his attempt to shipwreck the faith and fruitfulness of believers. The strategy involves corrupting the Word of God by adding to it or subtracting from it. Thus, the Scriptures are distorted through the input of fallen, finite man and the contributions of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons (1Tm 4:1). Such modifications demolish the objective truth of Scripture. The Bible no longer stands as God’s Word when “adjustments” are made by other sources. This is taking place today in unprecedented fashion, especially through the introduction (or re-introduction) of mysticism.

The antithesis of the objective Word of God, mysticism is defined by The Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the belief that direct knowledge of God, spiritual truth, or ultimate reality can be attained through subjective experience such as intuition or insight,” and adds that it is “vague speculation, a belief without sound basis.” Google gives this definition: “belief characterized by self-delusion or dreamy confusion of thought, especially when based on the assumption of occult qualities or mysterious agencies.” A mystical worldview, which is intensifying in both the world and its religions, will be foundational to the coming one-world religion.

Among many reasons they give that Mysticism will be the one world religion of the Antichrist is the following…

Mysticism has a universal appeal that will attract and unify all the religions of the world. Why? Because it avoids doctrine (rules, regulations, commandments, obligations, requirements, etc.). The doctrines of the Bible are given by God and are to be obeyed; not obeying them is rebellion, which is the state of the world as well as the state of many within the church. The religions of the world also have doctrines, albeit false ones, against which their followers often rebel. Doctrines divide because people don’t particularly like rules that demand obedience. The stricter the rules, the less attractive the religion. That’s a potential problem for the religion of the Antichrist because its goal is to attract other belief systems and draw all people into its spiritual web.

Mysticism avoids objective rules and requirements, whether biblical or not. It’s a belief system without a sound (objective) basis that majors on subjective experience, insights, intuition, dreamy confusion of thought (e.g., altered states of consciousness), speculation, and mysterious agencies. So, the arbiter of what is right and true is how one feels: “If it feels right, then it must be right, and therefore ultimately true.”

In their article they refer to it as Mysticism, not Eastern Mysticism because it no longer inhabits only the East, but indeed that is where it all came from and it all originates from the very dark land in which God gave me my beloved wife, India.

When my wife fell away from her pure and sincere devotion to Jesus Christ, she was enticed into her own form of Mysticism, where I began to see that she adopted beliefs from both Hinduism, the primary religion in India, and also Buddhism.  When I began to study both religions/belief systems I was stunned to discover the exact teachings and beliefs that my wife’s behaviors in our marriage were now rooted in.

Many times, as I read up on these religions, I found myself saying, “Oh, this is why she is no longer doing this, or feeling this, or saying this, etc.”  There is absolutely nothing original about her apostasy or her so called insights and wisdom.  All the principles and insights behind her deception are right there in these religions which are thousands of years old.  Let me share with you the basics I learned about each of them.

The goal of Buddhism is to reach “Nirvana” which means liberation from your identity.  Buddhism does not believe in God or in a soul.

Buddhism teaches that nothing in life is permanent and that everything is subject to change.

  • This thinking is at the root of Persis thoughts regarding our marriage.  She believes nothing is permanent and everything changes so in her mind this also applies to our marriage and it’s easy to walk away from because after all “everything changes”.

Buddhism influences hundreds of millions of people.  The writings about Buddhism were written about a hundred years after the “Buddha” was born, which is believed to be sometime between the 5th and 6th century BC.  His life was predicted to be significant and indeed it became significant.

The Buddha grew up sheltered amongst nobility and wealth, unaware of the suffering in the world all around where he lived because it was being hidden from him.  When he finally saw the suffering, he was shocked.

He then set out on a quest from the foothills of the Himalayas, leaving everything, his privilege, his wife and child, his homeland, and he headed south into India to see if there was a way to overcome the suffering.

He first met the Brahmins (highest caste) of Hinduism but rejected the notion of blind faith and received wisdom, without any kind of rational explanation.  He believed very passionately that there must be a more credible rational way.  Here is a quote from the Buddha

“Believe nothing unless it agrees with your own reason.” Buddha

The very root of this type of thinking is pride.  “I don’t need anyone, especially any God to tell me…I’ve got this…I know this…I trust in my own reasoning!”  Buddha rejected God and the notion of faith.  Look at what a clear contradiction this is of the teaching of the wisest man that ever lived on earth, King Solomon.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (reason).  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6

God said Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived and that there would never be anyone ever again as wise as him.  See 1 Kings 3:12.

“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all men of the East, and greater than the wisdom of Egypt.  He was wiser than any other man…he spoke three thousand Proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five.”. 1 King’s 5:29-32

Perhaps make comparison between sayings of Solomon and sayings of Buddha.  Maybe even find some that are similar.  Also highlight the story of cutting the baby in half.  How amazing!

Then show a wise proverb from Solomon but show how it falls flat in the Nw Covenant because we need Christ.  He has become our wisdom.

The Buddha doesn’t even come close to King Solomon’s wisdom.  Solomon who was born and lived between 400-600 years before the Buddha around 1000 BC.  It is amazing to me that people are so enamored with the so called “wisdom of the Buddha”, seemingly forgetting the Wisdom of Solomon which was written many hundreds of years before the Buddha was even born.  To put 500 years into perspective, the United States is only 246 years old this year.

It is remarkable to me to realize that I have and am living by faith, a life that is completely incompatible with hundreds of millions of people on the planet, who now believe in the teachings of the Buddha.

Everyone wants to know what happens when we die?

Many people living in that age, including the Buddha were inspired by the life cycle of nature all around them and so they came to believe in a concept they called samsara, or reincarnation, where birth is followed by death, which is follow by rebirth, followed by death, and again followed by rebirth, in a continuing cycle of time.

Buddhist believe you may come back as another person, an animal, a bird, or even as an insect like a cockroach in your subsequent rebirths.  Please just stop and think about what kind of “faith” it takes to believe you could die and come back as a “cockroach”.  This is the depraved thinking of natural men led astray by deceiving spirits.  Truly, men will believe almost anything, this in spite of the fact that the Word of God tells us that men die and live only once.

“Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” – Hebrews 9:27

Realizing that there is so much suffering in one life, it became agonizing to these thinkers about the possibility of being forced to continually live through more and more suffering through each subsequent life. This became a burdensome notion and people wanted to find a way out of that cycle of samsara, so they wouldn’t have to relive the pains and difficulties of life over and over.

This leads to yet another religion where you are taught you have to “earn your own salvation” (not that anyone can) as we will see when we begin to look at the teaching on Karma.

As ridiculous as this notion of reincarnation is to the Bible, millions have been deceived by it for thousands of years, and there are even people that claim to have been able to recall their previous lives, past life regression, through hypnotism.

I wish these people could see some of my dreams, which have been given to me by deceiving spirits.  Some of them can seem so real that I wake up feeling very strong emotions connected to the false events which just happened in a dream.  The events in the dream can seem so real, and as if they really happened in my life, that I have had negative thoughts towards the person I love appearing in my dream, even hours after the dream has ended, in spite of the fact that everything in the dream was a lie with the purpose of deceiving me.

Past life regression, hypnosis, dreams, etc.… these are the same type of demonic trickery that is used to convince people at a séance that it really is their dead relatives that are coming back to speak to them, because, “no one else could have ever known that private information or insight beside their relative”.  One quick read of Dr. Martin’s book the Kingdom of the Occult gives a revealing exposure and hundreds of case studies which show the devil’s dirty hands in all these occult experiences.

When my oldest son, Tyler Chriswell was 12 years old, God opened his eyes, for a short window of time, to be able to see spirits.  He saw both demons and angels, but at two separate times.  He mostly saw demons and he described to me what they looked like in all their different shapes and sizes, but the most eerie thing he told me about them was regarding what they were doing.  They hang around and just watch you, observing you very carefully.  He walked into the kitchen one time and saw one just standing in the kitchen looking intently into the living room, just carefully observing the grandmother.  Another time, he was brushing his teeth and looked over and saw one just watching him.  When he saw it, he made a face and when the demon realized he could see him, he fled away, but that demon spirit was floating there just watching and observing my son and everyone in that family.

They hear everything you say, they know every strength, ever weakness, ever hidden sin, every thing you do when no one else is looking and you think you can get away with it…they know everything about you and can easily deceive you, targeting your weakness.  They wait for the perfect opportunity to strike you!

Demons can get people to believe almost anything.  They are not imbecilic spirits but are crafty geniuses of darkness with spiritual powers at their side intended to deceive all those that do not love the truth.  These demonic powers and influences are part of Satan’s influence where in the Bible it says, he leads the whole world astray.

The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. (Rev 12:9)

They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs,... (Rev 16:14)

Most people do not even believe in the very devil who is filling their hearts with deceptions and wickedness against God.

Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?  (Act 5:3)

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.  (2Th 2:9-12)

All of the occult and all of the teachings of Mysticism fall into the category of Satan’s deep secrets.

Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets: (Rev 2:24)

Buddha felt the problem with samsara or reincarnation was the inability to connect directly to the eternal soul, the part that survived every rebirth.

In an attempt to do this he meditated to block out all distractions of the external material world and the goal of this meditation was to merge the eternal soul with its cosmic counterpart the universal soul, the highest reality.  They believed by connecting their individual soul to the universal soul they would achieve freedom from samsara.

But after he went into deep state of meditation, he found that he was still left untransformed and still attached to the same problems of birth rebirth and death.

When this didn’t work, he tried a form of extreme self-denial also known as Asceticism for about 6 years and after almost killing himself he returned to moderation.  At one point he was so skinny he could touch his backbone through his stomach.

He believed that all we can know for sure is how we experience the world and that our minds determine what kinds of experience we have.  Again, everything in the Buddha’s world is about “self-reason”.

Through meditation he came to see that everything both internal and external are in a state of constant change which brought him to see that he had been in error about trying to identify a permanent self.  He began to believe that a permanent or independent self-did not exist.

One illustration Buddhists use to make their point is by asking the question, “When were you born?”  Then they would say, “Really?  Weren’t you born 9 months before that?  Weren’t you in your mother and father before that, etc?”  So conceivably they suggest that there was no single point when you actually came about.  This thinking led Buddha to believe there is no actual permanent self and that all is impermanence.

This is a truth, but not THE truth.  Indeed, everything is changing in the material world and nothing will last.  Even the Bible agrees with this and teaches this, but it says there is something that lasts forever, the soul and spirit of a person.

1 John 2:17  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

Because of this observation of not being able to point out the one time and place something came about, Buddhism denies “creation” and instead they believe in “manifestation”.  This is a clever attempt by Satan to edge God out furhter, by human reasoning, remembering that Buddha is relying solely on his own reason to come up with all his beliefs, perhaps having no idea that he is also being helped by evil spirits.

Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.' "'By what means?' the LORD asked. "'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said. "'You will succeed in enticing him,' said the LORD. 'Go and do it.' "So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you." (1Ki 22:21-23)

This is exactly what began happening to my wife as she relied solely on her own self to make meaning and find insights into life.  She was regularly heard saying, “I’m having these insights on my own…no man is teaching me these things.” She was right, no man was teaching her these things, but indirectly evil spirits were, and she had no idea.  She was also taken captive by her pride, “I can do this…I can learn this…I have the insight…I’m learning this on my own, etc.”  This is all pride, pride, pride, the virtue of hell.

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.  (1Ti 4:1)

Buddhism doesn’t deny that you exist, but it denies that you are an intrinsically independent entity. In other words, they believe you are just a small manifestation of a huge cosmic soup of identity in the larger universe, with no real distinction.  Buddhism does not believe in an eternal soul, but in what they call the buddhanature.  It gets really weird from here if you keep going deeper.  You have to have some really strong “faith” to begin to believe this stuff that Buddhism supposes.

Buddha believed that the idea of believing there is a permanent self or soul, was the root problem of all selfishness and being self-absorbed.  He believed it created insatiable craving that enslaved us to transient earthly concerns and kept us trapped in samsara.

On the other hand, the Living Word of the Living God tells us that we have a body, a soul, and a spirit.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (1Th 5:23)

The Bible says that all our desires which cause so much suffering come not from a buddanature, but a “sinful” or flesh nature.

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Gal 5:16-25)

In Buddhism, they believe once you realize there is no permanent self and you are just a small micro part of a much larger macro, it liberates you from the I, Me and Mine, which is the fundamental cause of suffering.

It seems to me that by denying a permanent created self, Satan is again denying the very thing which God has made.  “You are not an individual created by God to be the object of His love and to worship Him, but rather you are simply one small identity in the greater universal identity soup, where there is no God.” Imaging trying to teach this to King David, who uses the words “I” “me” or “my” eleven times in just 3 verses.  Clearly King David believed in a permanent created self.

For you [God] created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

And look how Satan comes through sincere men looking for answers, like I’m confident the Buddha was, and gives them a counterfeit.  “You were never truly made by God…there is no creator who made you for His glory and pleasure, but rather, you are just a manifestation of the cosmic soup of higher consciousness.”

The lies of Satan can turn otherwise noble and good men and women into totally blind spiritual imbeciles.  My wife is one of them.  She believed his lies and has become a useless spiritual imbecile.  Let us never thing otherwise because this is what God word says we become.

“Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” – Matthew 25:30 NLT

“Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers.” John 15:6

“All have turned away; all have become useless.” – Romans 3:12

“But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless.  The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.  Heb 6:8

“These people are as useless as dried-up springs…they are doomed to blackest darkness.” – 2 Peter 2:17

Jesus taught that the only way to be liberated from your sinful nature and evil desires was to put your faith in him and obey His teachings, part of which is the taking up of your cross (self-denial) and crucifying your flesh.

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.  (John 8:31-36)

Buddhism teaches that if we could distinguish the delusion of self, we could see things as they truly are, and our suffering would end because we could then have the capacity to take control of our lives.

The idea of escaping all suffering in this life is what gives Buddhism its strong appeal.  Who wouldn’t want to escape all their sufferings?

Jesus Christ teaches not only that we have an independent self-life and will, but that we must “lose our life in this world to find it and hate our life in this world to keep it.” (Matthew 16:24-27) If we live according to His Holy Spirit inside of us, (Romans 8:8-10, Gal 5:25) after we are born again (John 3:3-8), we will have the power to put down those desires in our sinful nature which war against the Spirit (Romans 8:13).

A prophecy from the Buddha which sounds eerily like a prophecy about the coming Anti-christ.

'I am not the first Buddha [ awakened one ] who has come upon the Earth, nor will I be the last. In due time another Buddha will rise in the world, a holy one, a supreme enlightened one, endowed with auspicious wisdom embracing the universe, an incomparable leader of men, a ruler of gods and mortals. He will reveal to you the same eternal truths, which I have taught you. He will establish his law [ Religion ], glorious in its origins, glorious at the climax and glorious at the goal in the spirit and the letter. He will proclaim a righteous life wholly perfect and pure, such as I now proclaim. His disciples will number many thousands, while mine number many hundreds. He will be known as Maitreya.' - Buddha Gautama

'Listen attentively with one heart. A man whose spirit shines brightly, a man whose mind is completely unified, a man whose virtue excels everyone - such a man will truly appear in this world. When he preaches precious laws, all the people will be totally satisfied as if the thirsty drink sweet drops of rain from heaven. And each and everyone will attain the path of liberation from struggles.' - Sutra of the Great Accomplishment of the Maitreya

One of Satan’s lies is to tell us that Jesus is not the only way to salvation and eternal life, but rather he was just one of several “enlightened” ones God sent to the world to bring us the truth.  When you put their teachings side by side you can see that this is either a lie of Satan, or we have to conclude that God changed his definition of “enlightenment” by time Jesus, his next “enlightened” teacher, showed up.

“Do not look for a sanctuary in anyone except yourself. – Buddha

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life.” – Jesus Christ

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” – Jesus Christ

“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path. Buddha

“If you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.” Jesus Christ

“Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.” - Buddha

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. – Jesus Christ

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except by me.” Jesus Christ

Whereas the goal of Buddhism is to reach “Nirvana”, the goal of Hinduism is to reach Moksha which means your soul has achieved salvation from the materialistic world.  (Notice NOT from sin)

The mission of Hinduism is to become self-realized...to become aware of your soul and everyone’s soul.  If you are still comparing your external or material position against others, they say you have no soul awareness and are not self-realized.

In Hinduism the physical reality of the universe is not real at all. It is called maya, an illusion, the escape from which is the ultimate goal of yoga. The true reality is found in the nonphysical realm, according to Eastern mysticism. - Dave Hunt

This is why my wife said to me one time, “I am a prisoner in your material world”.  She has bought into the teachings of Hinduism.

The materialism in America was indeed a knockout blow to my wife’s perceptions of “Christianity”.  She had been told since she was a child that America was where the true Christians were, but when she saw all the love of money and materialism it all collapsed.  My wife was not able to see Jesus any longer past all the counterfeits and she began saying over and over how Indians focus on the spiritual world not the material world.

This is obviously because they have so little of the material world in their history as being among the poorest in the world.  She felt I was an anomaly to have escaped it.  She began to believe that because there are so many counterfeits in Christianity that there is no real Christianity.  She would often say, just look around at the type of “Christians” which Christianity and preaching has produced over the last 2000 years.  She began to see me as a rare example of someone who had escaped the material world for the spiritual world, but all the while thinking I hadn’t been enlightened yet because I’m still holding on to the narrow path to life through the one man and Son of God, Jesus Christ (a sect).

Now that Persis has walked away from Jesus, she claims that I remain a part of a sect (Christianity), and only love those who think like me, but that she now loves and accepts everyone, not just those in one small sect.  This is the fruit of Hinduism which teaches you to acknowledge and respect the divine soul in everyone, both good and evil.  Hence, they say “Namaste”, which means, “The divine in me, bows to the divine in you.”  This sounds so righteous, but in God’s eyes it is evil, because it again moves towards making men “gods”.

To me, calling Christianity a sect is like saying having only one spouse is a sect.  In Christianity, Christ is our Groom and we are his bride.  He is the only Groom and we value exclusivity to Him and through Him.  He is the way, the truth and the life.

The True Spiritual life is NOT just about renouncing materialism, but about renouncing SELF and SIN and accepting the love and rule of the Lord Christ in your life.

Hinduism comes from the most depraved society on earth.

“Although “perennial wisdom” over thousands of years seems thus far to have failed to solve the extensive problems in the East, are we to accept its claim that it is going to vastly improve the West? Really? It hasn’t worked in its purest form in the East. (A recent comment by a native of India in The Times of India declared: “I am convinced. We are amongst the MOST depraved of societies in the world. And it’s only going to get worse.” - Dave Hunt

I, Michael Chriswell, who lived for almost 7 months in India can agree, it must be the toughest, most depraved place on earth.  It is truly a cursed land and yet it is the birthplace and home of the so called “great religion” Hinduism.  Satan has been and continues to make fools out of millions of people all over the world who run to this depraved cursed land looking for so called “spiritual enlightenment”.  To me this is the spiritual equivalent of running to a public toilet to brush your teeth in.  How foolish we humans are!

Psalm 16:4 NIV [4] The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips.

Proverbs 29:2 NIV [2] When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.

How much better off would so many be if they simply took one piece of worldly wisdom that I learned years ago in my career days, “Never take advice from anyone more messed up than you are.”

It is commonly stated that the East is mostly “spiritual” and the West is mostly “material”.  While this is a fair generalization, it is not some profound geographical fixed truth.  If you, living in the West, were as poor as most Indians are, you would have nothing left but that which is invisible to put your hope in too.

The poorest and neediest of the world have almost always been the most “spiritual” because naturally they have nothing else to put their hope in.  Think of the Native American Indians, or the many small tribes in Africa.

Satan has of course taken advantage of these cultures and has made generational in-roads that are almost impossible to turn around or break.  On the other hand, the West is realizing more and more that materialism does not satisfy the deep longings of the soul, and more and more of them are looking into spirituality but they are becoming ensnared by a counterfeit “spirituality”.

Let me first point out an appropriate teaching of Christ right here that helps us to see what kind of tree Hinduism is, looking at the condition of India, and the majority of practicing Hindus, as its fruit:

"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.” - Mat 12:33

I am not picking on India or Indians, because I truly love them both.  I am however, making a case against its false religion, a religion of devils, called Hinduism.  I do the same thing with Catholicism and many parts of Protestantism.  You shall recognize all trees by their fruit.

In many ways, America and the West are NO better off than many Indians.  In fact, according to Jesus most Americans will be punished more severely in eternity than the pagans in India based on what He taught in Mark 12:47-48.  I can know the American “Christianity” tree by its many rotten fruits too, but these notes are on Hinduism, not the false gospels of America.

There are many different “schools” of thought in Hinduism (beliefs)

Hinduism points to realization of SELF as the way to salvation, whereas Christianity points to realization of Jesus Christ and “death” to SELF, as the means to salvation!

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” – Matthew 10:39

Hinduism teaches, “I came into the world to experience the world, to experience hunger, to experience fear, so as to attain self-realization.”

Hindus believe we all get stuck on wealth power, meaning, pleasure and these are what prevent people from becoming spiritually enlightened and self-realized.  This is a truth, but it is not THE truth.  Even the “rich young ruler” in Matthew 19, got “stuck” on material wealth, and even I, Michael Chriswell, had my spiritual life chocked off by my pursuits of wealth and the pleasures of this world.

However, the spirituality I was missing out on was not the evil counterfeit of Hinduism or Mysticism, but on true salvation and fullness in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ.  Spirituality outside of Jesus Christ is a deceptive, worthless, counterfeit.  Many people say today, “I’m spiritual” and Satan himself is also “spiritual”, more so than any human living on the planet, but he is also doomed because He is a part of the wrong kind of “spirituality”.  How remarkable that most of these “spiritual” people do not even believe in Satan.

“The god [Satan] of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” – 2 Corinthians 4:4

In Hinduism “salvation” is believed to be reached when you achieve “self-realization” through meditation.

In Christianity Salvation is reached when you achieve “God-realization” (knowing God) through Christ.

John 17:3 NIV -  [3] Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

True life and peace never come from knowing yourself, but from knowing God.  The Bible teaches that the human heart, the one people are trying so hard to “self-realize” is terribly deceived and leads you astray.

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?  (Jeremiah 17:9)

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.  (Pro 14:12)

Hinduism teaches not only the need for detachment from all material things but also from loved ones in order to reach self-realization and thus salvation.  This Hindu principle of detachment is why Persis began separating from me as her husband, so easily.

Hinduism has some of the most outrageous fables and fairytales about their gods that you can imagine.  While living in India with my wife, I heard quite a few of these and I was totally dumbfounded that people believe these made up fairy tales as the foundation of their religion.  My wife also recognized the silliness of these stories that are believed in the Hindu religion.

In Hinduism there is a false story about a false god king called Ram who essentially abandons his wife Sita in order to demonstrate his love for his “children/citizens” and to set an example to his devotees (Hindus) to follow his example of detachment from all loved ones, for the “greater” good.

My wife believes she has a mission to take her new teachings and insights to the “outcasts” of the world and she is willing to abandon me to do that, hence why she has been practicing detachment from me.

The following excerpt was taken from https://www.quora.com/Why-did-lord-Rama-banish-Sita

Hinduism teaches that ordinarily, people are very attached materially to spouse, children, house, wealth. So, Ram was duty-bound to demonstrate to his citizens the principle of detachment so that they become inspired toward detachment and thus make spiritual advancement. That’s why Lord Rama considered his duty as an ideal king more important than as the ideal husband and so sacrificed his love for his wife for the sake of his love for his children (citizens). But he didn’t abandon his duty as a husband; he thoughtfully did that duty by transferring Sita from his direct care in the palace to his indirect care in the hermitage. Mother Sita, understanding the heart of her Lord, gracefully accepted her part in his sacrifice.

It is taught that when Sita (Ram’s wife) is with Ram, she is happy, and even when she is away from Ram she continues to be happy and that’s because Ram swells in her heart.  It is taught that they both have self-realization, so there is no attachment with anyone.

In another Hindu story of another false god, Krishna also leaves his wife Radha and goes away.

When I learned of these Hindu principles of detachment, I began to see why Persis was suddenly so willing to leave me, or to even have me leave her.  She is striving for detachment, from all things and people in this world so she can achieve this so-called self-realization.  When I questioned her, telling her how ridiculous her thinking had become, she even began using Jesus’s own teachings, in a twisted way, against me saying, “didn’t Jesus say to hate your wife”.

This is a real-life example of how Satan can quote and twist Scripture, just like He did to Jesus in Matthew 4.  What Satan quoted to Jesus was true Scripture, albeit he left out a few words, from Psalm 91, but the Scripture was being twisted for Satan’s agenda and taken completely out of context and apart from God’s personal will for Jesus.  The Scripture was true, but it was not THE TRUTH of God’s will for Jesus in that moment.  Hence, why Jesus had to say, “It is also written, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

When my wife, aided by an anti-Christ spirit, quotes Jesus’ words to me about, “hate your wives” in Luke 14:26, I had to say to her, it is also written, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” – Ephesians 5:25

When I fell off the ladder in the tiny house in early January, Persis became distraught and I know that must have scared her and showed her she wasn’t as detached from me as she thought she was.  Since that time, she has done several more things to twist her thinking about me and become more detached from me.

Part of self-realization is to become the “observer”.  There is a Hindu illustration of a tree with two birds.  The bird on the right is busy and eating something.  The bird of the left is doing nothing but “observing” the bird who is eating.  The goal of Hinduism is to become the “observer”, where you become “self-realized” as if you can see yourself in all ways at all times, from “outside” yourself as an “observer”.

This is exactly what my wife believes she has achieved.  She has said often, “I am an observer.”  She learned this principle directly from her culture and from Hinduism.

Hinduism believes your soul is always perfect, but it dwells inside the body bound by karma.

Self-actualization, conjured up by Abraham Maslow, is no different from the Eastern mystical teaching of self-realization—realizing one’s godhood. 2) Sin is simply wrong thinking. Sin, we are told, is a construct of judgmental religions imposing their beliefs and practices upon humanity. It is a control mechanism that prohibits mankind from reaching its potential—which, again, is godhood. 3) Being guided by one’s feelings is the basis for true wellness. Feelings emanate from one’s subconscious, which, we’re told, is where one’s true self resides. Being true to one’s feelings, therefore, is the ultimate path of truth. - Dave Hunt One World Religion

Hinduism does not separate or have a dichotomy between good and evil and treats evil “respectfully and caringly”, thinking it can be liberated, even made pure.  Evil is thought of a spirit that needs help.  It is not spurned.  Hence why Persis stopped acknowledging evil and distinguishing between right and wrong, believing that even evil was “good” because God made it and has a purpose for it.  Whereas in the Bible it says...

John 7:7 NIV [7] The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil.

Romans 12:9 NIV [9] Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Hebrews 1:9 NIV [9] You [Jesus] have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy."

Morgan Freeman quote in The Story of God, after flying around the world and visiting all religions:

“The thing that I have learned is that everybody’s truth is “the” truth.” – Morgan Freeman

Contrast that with what Jesus Christ said...

John 17:17 NIV [17] Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

Notes on Hinduism From Amy Carmichael’s Book, “Things As They Are”

Sir Monier Williams explains the receptivity and all-comprehensiveness of Hinduism.  “It has something to offer which is suited to all minds, its very strength lies in its infinite adaptability to the infinite diversity of human characters and human tendencies. It has its highly spiritual and abstract side, suited to the metaphysical philosopher ; its practical and concrete side, suited to the man of affairs and the man of the world; its aesthetic and ceremonial side, suited to the man of poetic feeling and imagination ; its quiescent and contemplative side, suited to the man of peace and lover of seclusion. Nay, it holds out the right hand of brotherhood to nature worshippers, demon worshippers, animal worshippers, tree worshippers, fetich worshippers. It does not hesitate to permit the most grotesque forms of idolatry and the most degrading varieties of superstition, and it is to this latter fact that yet another remarkable peculiarity of Hinduism is mainly due namely, that in no other System of the world is the chasm more vast which separates the religion of the higher, cultured, and thoughtful Classes, from that of the lower, uncultured, and unthinking Masses”

AN OLD HINDU SCHOLAR - Page 93 of Carmichael’s book

We were visiting his wife, when he came out from the inner room, and asked if he might talk with us. Usually to such a question I say no; we have come to the women, who are far the more needy, the men can easily hear if they will. But he was such an old man, I felt I could not refuse; so he began to tell me what he held as truth, which was, in brief, that there are two sets of attachment, one outer, one inner; that deliverance from these, and from Self, the Ego, which regards itself as the doer [rather than the observer], constitutes Holiness; that is, that one must be completely disentangled and completely selfless. This attained, the next is Bliss, which is progressive. First comes existence in the same place as God. Second, nearness to God. Third, likeness to God. Fourth, identity with God. Then he quoted from a classic beloved by all the old Tamil school, stanza after stanza, to prove the truth of the above, ending with one which Dr. Pope has thus translated

“Cling Thou to that which He to Whom nought clings hath bid thee Cling, Cling to that bond, to get thee free from every clinging thing.”

Michael:  This is EXACTLY what my wife has bought into which is why she is letting go of her love for me and our marriage.

Look at how Satan’s teaching of detachment is the exact opposite of what God teaches in His word.

“At the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?  So they are no longer two but one. (attached, not detached).  Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate (detach).” – Matthew 19:4-6

 Carmichael continues…

The talk ended in my quoting what he could not deny was the true heart cry of one of his greatest poets.

“I know nothing! Nothing! Is there no light for me? I am in darkness. Lord, is there no light for me?”

And another one, which asks the question, “What is the use of knowledge, mere knowledge, if one does not draw near to the All-knowing, All-pure One?”

What a wonderful COUNTERFEIT the teaching of Hinduism is, leading its followers to believe they really have found the truth, apart from Christ.

As to their [Indians] attitude towards the Gospel, the Classes and the Masses unite; they are wholly indifferent to it.

In a paper read at the Student Volunteers Conference in 1900, a South Indian missionary summed up the sentence “Shut in for millenniums by the gigantic wall of the Himalayas on the North, and by the impassable ocean on the South, they have lived in seclusion from the rest of the world, and have developed social institutions and conceptions of the universe, and of right and wrong, quite their own. Their own religion and traditionary customs are accepted as sufficiently meeting their needs, and they are not conscious of needing any teaching from foreigners. They will always listen courteously to what we say, and this constitutes an open door for the Gospel, but of conscious comprehensive need and hungering for the Gospel there is little or none. So long as it is only a matter of preaching, there are in the world no more patient listeners than the Hindus. But as soon as a case arises of one of their number abandoning the Caste customs and traditionary worship, all their hostility is aroused, and the whole community feels it a duty of patriotism to do its utmost to deprive that individual of liberty of action, and to defend the vested rights of Hinduism. “For the true Hindu is fervently Hindu. His religion may be described as bound in the bundle of his everyday existence.” His intense belief in it, and in his Caste, which is part of it, gives edge to the blade with which he fights the entrance any new religion to his home.

These next words sound like my wife and her two other sisters who do nothing but sit at home or stay in their room, even though they were raised in a “Christian” home.

The young girls belonging to the higher Castes are kept in strict seclusion. During these formative years they are shut up within the courtyard walls to the dwarfing life within, and as a result they get dwarfed, and lose in resourcefulness and independence of mind, and above all in courage ; and this tells terribly in our work, making it so difficult to persuade such a one to think for herself or dare to decide to believe. Such seclusion is not felt as imprisonment; a girl is trained to regard it as the proper thing, and we never find any desire among those so secluded to break bounds and rush out into the free, open air. They do not feel it cramped as we should it is their custom.

At this time, my wife does nothing but sit in her room every single day, day after day, only coming out for food, restroom, or a short walk through the house.

It is this custom which makes work among girls exceedingly slow and unresultful. They have to be reached one by one, and it takes many months of teaching before the mind opens enough to understand that it may be free. The reaction of the physical upon the mental is never more clearly illustrated than in such cases. Some times it seems as if the mind could not go out beyond the cramping walls; but when it has, by God’s illumination, received light enough to see into the darkness of the soul, and the glory that waits to shine in on it, conceive of the tremendous upheaval, the shock of finding solid ground sink, as gradually or suddenly the conviction comes upon such a one that if she acts upon this new knowledge there is no place for her at home. She must give everything up everything!

The Stories We Tell Ourselves to Make Meaning

We are all looking for meaning.  Men write myths (Joseph Campbell - The Power Of Myth) and stories to give a sense of purpose to their life.  Try to imagine your life with no story to tell you what life is about or what the destination is.  Even atheists tell themselves a story, “There is no God and love is completely random and purposeless, so enjoy it while you can.”  Life would be scary as hell and full of anxiety without stories to give us meaning and thus hope.”

According to the Bible, there is only one true “story” and the rest are counterfeits from the corrupt imaginations of men and the teachings of evil spirits.  The devil leads the whole world astray.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 NIV [1] The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. [2] Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

The Bible is the only story that had the ability to reach through from the past into the future, disclosing what would happen in advance. The Bible is clearly a book written from another realm.

When I explain my story, I’m also explaining the meaning I’ve concluded.  How do I know if my meaning is correct or a delusion of my mind?  My meaning is based on the only book in the world which bares its very right to exist on its ability to prophetically predict the future (Isaiah 46:10-11), most importantly the coming of Jesus Christ.

Secondly, my life reflects the biblical truths found in the Bible.  I have followed them and “found out” (John 7:17).  Thirdly, many of the major events in my life have now been told to me in advance of their becoming.  My 777-day divorce, my fruitful ministry, 1,000,000 views on my story video, my new wife, my tiny house, where I’ll live, etc.  What other religion or book can do that?  The Bible says that a spiritual deceiver has led the WHOLE WORLD astray...that means all religions outside of the One the Bible defines as true religion.

How life changing it would be if men could consider the simple possibility that what they’ve been told their whole life is actually a lie, a deception, a Counterfeit of the authentic.  Even I was deceived inside the One true faith for 19 years.

Main Scriptures Warning About Falling Away from the Faith

Matthew 10:32-33 NIV [32] "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. [33] But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

Matthew 11:6 NIV [6] Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me." (Spoken of John the Baptist who was beginning to doubt)

Luke 8:13 NIV [13] Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

John 15:6 NIV [6] If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

John 15:10 NIV [10] If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love.

John 16:1 NIV [1] "All this I have told you so that you will not go astray.

Matthew 24:10 NIV [10] At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,

Luke 14:34-35 NIV [34] "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? [35] It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

Romans 11:20-22 NIV [20] Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. [21] For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. [22] Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.

Acts 14:22 NIV [22] strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said.

1 Corinthians 10:12 NIV [12] So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!

1 Corinthians 15:2 NIV [2] By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

Galatians 5:4 NIV [4] You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

Colossians 1:21-23 NIV [21] Once you were alienated from God and were enemies...But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body...if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.

1 Timothy 1:19 NIV [19] holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.

1 Timothy 5:15 NIV [15] Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan.

1 Timothy 4:16 NIV [16] Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

1 Timothy 4:1 NIV [1] The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

1 Timothy 6:20-21 NIV [20] Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, [21] which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.

2 Timothy 2:12 NIV [12] if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;

Hebrews 2:1 NIV [1] We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Hebrews 3:6 NIV [6] But Christ is faithful...And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

Hebrews 3:12-14 NIV [12] See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.... We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

Hebrews 3:18-19 NIV [18] And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed ? [19] So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Hebrews 4:11 NIV [11] Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.

Hebrews 6:4-6 NIV [4] It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, [5] who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, [6] if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

Hebrews 6:7-8 NIV [7] Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. [8] But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Hebrews 6:11-12 NIV [11] We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. [12] We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Hebrews 10:38-39 NIV [38] But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." [39] But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Hebrews 12:24-25 NIV [24] to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. [25] See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

2 Peter 1:10-11 NIV [10] Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, [11] and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 2:20-22 NIV [20] If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. [21] It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. [22] Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

1 John 2:24-25 NIV [24] See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. [25] And this is what he promised us---even eternal life.

1 John 2:28-29 NIV [28] And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. [29] If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

Jude 1:20-21 NIV [20] But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. [21] Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

2 Peter 3:17 NIV [17] Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.

2 John 1:8-11 NIV [8] Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. [9] Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. [10] If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. [11] Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.

There may still be hope (only Father knows who hasn’t crossed the line):

James 5:19-20 NIV [19] My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, [20] remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Revelation 2:5 - Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

“Blessed is the one who is not offended by Me. (Matthew 11:6 ESV)

The Word of God does take account of the possibility of our being offended with Him. It does not say anywhere that that possibility should never arise and will never arise. The Lord has nowhere said that we shall never have any occasion for being offended with Him. He HAS indicated that there will be PLENTY of opportunity for so stumbling at Him, falling over Him, coming down because of Him – if you like: crashing because of Him. There will be plenty of occasion or opportunity for doing so. He has never said that it will never be so. It is as well for us to recognize that.

The Lord sent no word of rebuke to poor John the Baptist in the prison when he was perilously near to being offended with the Lord because of his situation. The Lord was not hard on John because of his question. He might, had He been another, have said, “But John, did you not point Me out as the Lamb of God? Did you not proclaim Me as the One, the Messiah? Haven't you preached about Me to multitudes? Have you not made the strongest declarations and affirmations as to what you believed about Me? And here you're asking a fundamental question about Me. John, what's gone wrong with you?” No, nothing like that.

The Lord knows our frame, that we are dust. And the Lord, I'm saying, takes account of this ever-present possibility, in our weakness, of being offended with Him. But He does attach to this matter a particular blessedness if we don't crash over the Stumbling Block of His ways with us, “/AND/ blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in Me.”

Persis first fell away from Prayer!

“As we have said, if the prayer life is weak, then the revelation of the Lord Jesus in us will be weak, and rather than being a revelation of Him it will be a manifestation of ourselves, and that is the thing the Lord says has got to be trimmed.”

“Power is not something apart from prayer, not something made in itself and given to us. Power is a part of prayer, and prayer is power. It is one thing. We have to learn more and more the power of prayer, and the prayer of power.

T. Austin-Sparks

Just as Madame Guyon stated, when she ceased to pray, it became an open door for Satan in her life.  Persis flung the door wide open to the devil, when she stopped praying, first with me, then even privately.  She began to see prayer as a religious formality, rather than a critical necessity of spiritual life.

Once a day Walk with Jesus Devotional

Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. John 12:24

Take one barren field, bury a handful of seed, add a little water and the care of the farmer, and what do you have?

At first, you still have only a barren field.

But after a few months, the field will produce an abundant harvest.

In John 12 we read how Jesus used the simple illustration of a dying seed to explain to his followers the reason behind his death.

And A. B. Bruce provides this timely explanation of the “law of increase”—a law that Jesus’ death portrays.

“Jesus’ purpose is to make it clear to his disciples that death and increase may go together.

“Such is true in the case of grain; and the law of increase is equally true in his own case.

“He might have explained it this way: ‘A grain of wheat, by dying, becomes fruitful; so I must die in order to become, on a large scale, an object of faith and source of life.’

“ ‘During my lifetime I have had little visible success. Few have believed, many have disbelieved; and they are about to crown their unbelief by putting me to death.’

“ ‘But my death, far from being—as they fancy—my defeat and destruction, will be but the beginning of my glorification.’ “

The good news of the gospel began with the bad news of a tragic, unjust execution. It began with death.

A grain of wheat—dead and buried, lifeless, fruitless … or so it would seem.

But three days later, all that changed.

From death sprang eternal life. The seemingly fruitless became the firstfruits of a mighty harvest that is still bearing fruit today.

Thank God right now for the harvest the death of his Son has accomplished in your life.

May 23 – Austin Sparks Devotional

Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in My Name, claiming I am the Christ, and will deceive many. (Matthew 24:4,5 NIV)

In a somewhat extended life and ministry, again and again I have seen dear people of God who were out in the open going on with the Lord in the liberty of the Spirit with great promise and then they've been caught in some “ism.” They simply are helpless to escape themselves from the tenets of that “ism.” Again, and again I've seen it! Tragedy.... There's a great “ism” sweeping right over America and over Europe in these last years. I can dare to mention this one, well I'm going to at any rate: Universalism. It's an “ism” which has captured multitudes! And you just can't get /anywhere/ with these people once they've got it. But I have known them, oh so promising... so promising and then /this/ thing has come subtly along their way, attractive and fascinating.... So appealing: everybody, ultimately, including the devil himself, will be saved.

What are you going to do with that? Willy-nilly they'll be saved...undercutting so many of the very /vitals/ of the Gospel.

You may call these things gross errors, but there are things that are /not/ such errors. Not such errors, indeed in themselves they're quite true, but they have become the beginning of all and the end of all to the people who have taken them on. You can get no further, no further. They have lost the great ground, the vast ground of God's /full purpose/ for this dispensation and become stuck on some /thing/ that is only partial at best. Arrested... like Judaism; come to a standstill, or going round and round in a circle, the circle of this particular thing. It should be a warning to us because, you see, this is the thing that has been the enemy of the fullness of Christ all through the centuries - this sort of thing.... There are many antichrists in the world and an antichrist is not a spurious, fearful creature, you know, with a tail and a pitchfork. No, an antichrist is something that /assumes the place of Christ/.... And with the natural judgment, natural powers, you are not able to distinguish between the true and the false. The Christ and the antichrist seem to be so much alike. You can't discern the difference, but the Anointing will tell you! The Anointing which you have received, when you come into touch with something false, will tell you if the Anointing is really governing, saying, “Be careful,” not in words, but inside. You have a feeling there's something not quite clear here, not transparent here, not safe here... “I don't feel happy about this, I can't tell you why but I just don't feel quite happy about this... there's something in me that says: beware.” /I am convinced/ that in a day like this of deceptions and misleadings and all that, /the/ great need is our spiritual discernment; of knowing the Holy Spirit in this way, that He's able to warn you.

NOTE:  Persis also rejected the idea that the world is getting worse and things are becoming darker, each time I mentioned it. She also rejected the clear evidence that natural disasters are on the rise. She dismisses all of this by saying they have always been this way and pointing back to mid-evil times where there was always blood and carnage and men were always fighting, and the powerful were always preying on the weak.  Well these are true, but it is also true that we have had unprecedented time of peace in the West and there were times of righteousness and godliness which are now being followed by a total dissent into darkness that she was unwilling to see. These things are prophesied about in the Bible so if they are happening in real life and one admits to seeing them, then one may perhaps be inclined to believe the Bible is indeed a true book of prophecy.

How I will know when Persis truly comes to repentance:

Job 33:27 NIV [27] Then he comes to men and says, 'I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved.
