DAY 12 - God Forgives All Sin Except One

Do I understand that there is no sin God won’t forgive except blaspheming the Holy Spirit?

24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."  25Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. 30  "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.  32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

INSIGHT:  Look at those amazing and unbelievable words in v. 31, “every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men…”  That means, besides blaspheming the Holy Spirit, there is no sin that is too bad for God to forgive us of.  Many people have a hard time believing that God could possibly forgive them because of what they did.  I know through personal experience that He can because when I was 20 years old, I willingly drove my girlfriend (who became my wife) to the abortion clinic and gave my consent to abort what turned out to be our twin babies.  In God’s eyes, that made me a murderer and even worse, a murderer of innocent little babies.  I deserve hell for things far less evil than that, but I am so thankful that God forgave me of my grievous sins and ignorance.  By God’s amazing grace, I join the ranks of other murderers who became ministers, like Moses, King David, and Paul.  (Paul consented to murders).  I have been forgiven much and therefore I love Him very much (Luke 7:47).

In regards to the unforgiveable sin, the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons, by the power of Satan.  Blaspheming the Holy Spirit means to speak evil of, or attribute evil to Him.  Many Christians are afraid to speak up about questionable “moves of the Spirit” or false teaching, for fear of violating this Scripture.  But this goes to an incorrect extreme and violates other warnings like Mt 7:15-20, 24:11, 1 Jn 4:1, 1 Tim 4:1, 2 Cor 11:4.  The Pharisees hated Jesus and purposely acted maliciously towards Him.  We do not hate Jesus and it is wise, discerning, and expected for us to test the spirits, lest we be deceived.

Years ago people began speaking out against the false teaching of Beny Hinn, whereupon he said on camera that he wished he had a “Holy Spirit machine gun”, so he could blow them all away.  He also said, “I curse anyone who speaks against my ministry”.  Do these sound like things Jesus, Peter, John, Paul, John Bunyan, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, or A.W. Tozer would ever say?  We must not assume every “move” is from the Spirit, or that every man who claims to love and speak for Jesus, is in fact a true man of God (2 Cor 11:3-4, 13-15).  Far too many deceiving spirits are in the church today. So remember, we can know the wolves, even though they wear sheep’s clothing, by their fruit.
